Election Results are in!

Reagan Pennypacker, Cedar City Reporter

Today, Cedar City received excellent election results. We, as a city, were pleased to hear such a strong group of young leaders would be representing our town and upholding our city motto: Sapientia et universali ambitio, or Wisdom, Ambition, and Blessings. We have great confidence in our mayor’s efficiency and capabilities to command our town with grace and poise. Our four City Councilwomen, who will assist the mayor in the selection of appointment-based positions, Alexis Torres, Chief City Councilwoman, Autumn Pearson, Melanie Alderette, and Grace Hendricks, are excited to uphold the honor associated with this position. City Clerk, Mariyah Lucero is eager in completing her secretarial duties under Mayor Chabrielle. Mikayla Dawn Fuller, Cedar City’s Treasurer, is enthusiastic in completing the general budget for Cedar City this week. Last, but certainly not least, Municipal Judge, Taylor Torres is zealous to perform the duties necessary for her office.

The 65 girls currently attending ALA Girls State NM connected today over topics in relation to the continuing fight for female equality in American Society. All girls who participated in this open forum dictated their intellectual thoughts in a polite manner and all induced deep thought among all girls in attendance. During the presentation after lunch, we learned about the evolution of the American flag, what it symbolizes and the different folds’ meanings and representations. We learned about the symbolism of the poppies, introduced after World War 1 as a symbol of renewal. The videos watched and songs presented while the decorating of the Poppy Wreath commenced certainly brought tears to my eyes and I am sure many others shared those deep, patriotic feelings. Cedar City is certain that we will enjoy the next four days of our journey together and treasure each moment we share together.
